The Mosaic School is an outgrowth of the Elementary School for the Arts and Academics, ESAA. Parents, community members, and teachers who helped establish ESAA wanted to expand the best practices developed at ESAA to serve families and students in grades 6-8. This desire came from the tremendous progress they saw in grades K-5 students at ESAA. In 2009, the ESAA Governing Board began working with the SASD administration to explore the possibility of establishing a charter middle school. A year was dedicated to meetings, focus groups, conferences, research, and building partnerships in an effort to develop the best middle school charter program for our community.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction awarded a Charter School Planning Grant in 2010 for the creation of The Mosaic School. The grant was used to develop research-based curriculum and educational practices that extend beyond the school building and school day to involve parents, local business leaders, artists, and other community partners.
Integrated academic disciplines within thematic units help students make real-world connections and continue to develop exceptional critical thinking skills. The Mosaic School offers a very diverse, multiple intelligences, project-based curriculum in a small community that allows for a personalized academic experience for every student.
